AD4605 Session 4

Grouped^^

Analytical^^

Overlapped^^

Theses pieces of work are from session 4 AD4605 where we had to take 5 pictures displaying decay, 5 rubbings, and pick 5 objects with a narrative perspective from Francis Close Hall campus.

We explored the main 3 design approaches that students had used in the session, these were: grouped (formal, understandable and simple), overlapped (informal, interrelated and complex) and analytical.
It was interesting to see how each student had a different narrative that they explored through their objects and how they told the story through the way the objects were placed on the table.

My piece is the image directly above. The narrative that I explored was how within nature nothing is the exact same, whether its the bark of a tree or the soil on the ground, however, man-made items are created to look uniform and to be the exact same, for example the rubbings I took of the old doors and the ventilation grill (top left and top middle images), these could be doors or ventilation grill from anywhere in the world whereas every tree has slightly different bark.
The pictures that I took of the walls and the cracking paint (bottom three images) depict how ultimately nature is stronger than man-made items and will take over if not maintained by us humans.
I also looked into how materials made by man are linear in contrast to nature which is free reining and wild in a way, which is shown through the 5 objects on the table.
I would sat the layout of my pictures, rubbings and objects is grouped as a design approach.

Overall, I must be remember to plan everything as a designer.
