Petra Blaise, Milan Project (Biblioteca degli Alberi)

In an urban area, this project acts as a point of refuge for people working, living and travelling through the area. The white pavements create slashes through the landscape which can be viewed successfully from the surrounding skyscrapers. From eye level the park is a stimulating landscape for all, the carefully selected planting palette not only promotes the collection of different trees but also creates halos of colour across the park, drawing people in.

I find this design really interesting. The different areas of the park have something to offer to everyone all whilst connecting the community. The paving choice is white and although this may not be to everyones taste, I think it distinguishes the pathways, attracting people to all areas of the park.

I also find the tree planting very successful. I love how the circular planting encapsulates where you are and feels separate to the rest of the park yet you are still connected. Using the same tree species in these 'halos' is very atmospheric, in particular the Sailx babylonica surrounding the swings.
