| H.C Andersen Museum and Fairy-Tale Garden in Odense Denmark These museum buildings are dedicated to the late Hans Christian Andersen, famous danish author. Spreading over 7,000 square metres in the middle of Odense, this has been designed to encapsulate those passing through into its fairy-tale themes which compliment H.C. Andersen's books. Personally, what I enjoy is how this public garden space merges with the surrounding city, becoming integrated into the city's flow. The old medieval city holds a magical atmosphere which is carried through into the gardens celebrating Andersen, the winding paths leading you into this beautiful segment of the city. The design is enchanting, with every element linking to one another. The aim being to let you perceive nature just like Andersen- 'as a source of inspiration that sets the imagination free but at the same time unpredictable and wild. There is harmony and chaos between every part of the garden, and the your perspective changes as you pass through; seeing different segments you may have not seen previously'. The planting in the design is well thought through, the hedges having specific symbolism. They are a classic garden element, marking out each space, designed with 'concave' arches that match the scale of the cylindrical museum buildings and surrounding structures'. These hedges are Fagus, achieving year-round interest and, forming a long, curved shape, mirroring cylindrical structures. The seasonal change provides a constant sense of transition in varying colours, transparencies and materiality. ![]() ![]() I would love to visit, to experience the 'fairy-tale' myself. |
