Completed in 2018, Marina One is situated in Singapore's new Marina Bay financial district. At around 65,000 square feet, the design for Gustafson Porter and Bowman's is named 'Green heart'. with over 400 different species of flora. Positioned between four towers - two residential and two commercial high-rises the space offers a chance for some retail therapy, along with gym workout spaces. The outer face of the towers follows the city grid, the inner space has been maximised into a free-formed three-dimensional garden with an abundance of vegetation and strands of water that fall into a large reflecting pool. Rainwater is collected at the top of the towers, which is then used for irrigation and to flush toilets.

The sculptural woven network of aluminium louvre ribbons provide the skeleton of the tropical garden which takes root on multiple levels. The openings of the towers, sky gardens and high-rises and the shape itself improve the airflow, creating and comfortable microclimate within multiple levels of the garden. The louvre helps to block the majority of the suns glare to the units and ground space.

For me the design of Marina One has been carefully considered. The plentitude of vegetation and retail stores make it a community hub. The sprightliness of the space makes it seem airy and bright, and can imagine the 4 bordering buildings to act as a buffer for some of the traffic noise. However, think the design of the aluminium ribbons could have been improved. As you can see below, the ribbons on the upper levels stop at the buildings edge meaning the beautiful organic circles below are lost. It would have been more interesting to have seen this organic style to flow through the whole facade of the building, and perhaps the green space on particular parts of each level could have been expanded.
