Arris of stone
a ridge formed on the surface of flaked stone such as an arrowhead.
Autoclave
a strong heated container used for chemical reactions and other processes using high pressures and temperatures.
Cleavage
a type of rock layering or planar formation that forms within finely grained rocks due to deformation and metamorphism caused by heat and pressure.
Conglomerate rock
a sedimentary rock made of rounded pebbles and sand that is usually held together by silica, calcite or iron oxide.
Crypto-efflorescence
When soluble salts become trapped below smooth dense bricks, expanding causing the face of the bricks to disintegrate. Only remedy it so cut out and replace affected bricks.
Dendritic

Galleting
an technique in which spalls (small pieces of stone) are pushed into wet mortar joints during construction.

Igneous
a rock having solidified from lava or magma.
Impregnated
any method of altering desired properties of wood by introducing a chemical, a mixture of chemicals, or an inert material into the wood cell wall.
Leafs (brick)
As thick as the width of one brick.
Metamorphic
rock which has undergone transformation by heat, pressure, or other natural agencies.
Notched
a cut that is made in a piece of wood to join two pieces together in carpentry of construction.
Pre-cast concrete
a form of concrete that is prepared, cast and cured off-site, usually in a controlled factory environment, using reusable moulds.
Puddingstone
a conglomerate rock which dark-coloured round pebbles contrast with a paler fine-grained matrix.
Puddling
process of converting pig iron to bar iron by heating and frequent stirring in a furnace in the presence of oxidising substances.
Pugging
material such as clay, mortar, sawdust, sand, etc inserted between wooden flooring and ceiling to reduce the transmission of sound (pug).
Rivern
stone has natural, split surface or edge finish which appears orregular and slightly ripped or chiselled in appearance.
River deltas

Sanded bricks
a face brick shaped into a mould that has been sprinkles with sand to prevent the clay from sticking to the mould.
Sedimentary
a rock that has formed from sediment deposited by water or air.
Shale
soft finely stratified rock that formed from consolidated mud or clay and can be split easily into fragile plates.
