Aquaponics for Leisure and Retreat, Concept Design - Fish n’ Chips, Hammersmith, London. Bauchplan Architects
Architectural firm Bauchplan won competition to revitalise new High Line in Hammersmith, London currently named Fish 'n' Chips including a series of green houses, aquaponics systems and swimming pools, designed to become a blue green 'living room', providing retreat for the neighbourhood.
This project aims to bring awareness to the processes of waste management and urban food production in London.
Through the aquaponics system, fruits and vegetables will be cultivated in a green house and create an ecological metabolic cycle with fish breeding in tanks under the railways arches. Rainwater is gathered from surrounding roofs to feed the fish tanks and swimming pools.
City dwellers can participate in the food production and benefit from the infrastructure itself with leisure activities like swimming, fishing, urban gardening and cultural events.
